Sense About Science Event

Sense About Science invited me to their In Conversation with the National Statistician event on June 17th as part of their Evidence Week. John Pullinger’s tenure as National Statistician came to an end in June. MP Norman Lamb hosted an audience of different communities around the UK to ask John how he’s using data and analysis to provide insights into society and people’s experiences, and to inform democratic debate and policy making.

I asked about gathering evidence and data around the opportunity, training, and retention of underrepresented people in STEMM. Using data from the CENSUS is one way we can track the effectiveness of initiatives - especially those linked to socioeconomic factors.

Watch the short clip below to understand my motivations for asking this question.
